There has been an alarming increase in the number of chicken pox cases in the Capital with the Health Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) registering 3,600 cases till date. However, the civic body is claiming that the situation is under control and there is no need to press the panic button.

"We have received a total of 3,600 cases of chicken pox till date from January onwards. Most of the cases were reported in March, April and May.

Now the declining trend would start so there is no need for panic," said Deep Mathur, Director (Press and Information), MCD. Chicken pox is a viral infection that spreads from person to person through air. The initial symptoms of the disease are fever, skin rash, and a breakout of fluid-filled blisters on the skin.

While chicken pox is usually mild, it can be serious or even fatal in adults and young infants. The disease can also lead to breathing problems, severe skin infection, brain damage, or death.
