MAI to appeal

THE MOTOR SPORTS Association of India (MAI) has decided to appeal the decision of the international body (FIA) to strip it off all sporting powers in the country and transfer it back to their rival, the Federation of Motor Sports Club in India (FMSCI)." "We will be appealing against the decision," MAI president Nazir Hoosein said.

MAI lost its powers after an attempt to merge the two warring factions failed. The latest decision was taken by the World Motor Sports Council of the FIA at its meeting in Paris on Wednesday.

It is believed that the cost of the appeal could be around Rs. 4 lakh (6,000 euros) for MAI. Meanwhile, the sport could have a promoter-regulator set up, by which the administration of the sport and the events will controlled by separate entities.

In all likelihood, Sidvin Core-Tech, the engineering service giant from Bangalore who are sponsoring the INRC, could well be given the role of the promoters. "We'd like to facilitate Indian motor sport in that direction," said Mohan Nagarajan, CMD of Sidvin India.
