2G: PM holds meet to discuss apex court verdict fallout

New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday held a crucial meeting with key cabinet colleagues to discuss the 2G issue in the wake of the apex court cancelling 122 licences issued during the tenure of former communications minister A. Raja.

The meeting held at the prime minister's official residence was attended by union ministers Pranab Mukherjee and Kapil Sibal and also by Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati. The prime minister has sought Vahanvati's opinion on the Supreme Court verdict.

The meeting is understood to have discussed the guidelines for the auction of 2G licences cancelled by the apex court. The meeting is also believed to have discussed the fallout of the cancellation of 2G licences and its impact on the telecom sector particularly in context of Norway and Russia voicing concern over investments by their telecom companies Telenor and Sistema, respectively.

The government has to complete the entire exercise of framing the guidelines for the auctioning of the cancelled 2G licences and actually putting them into effect within four months given by the apex court. The court had permitted the existing licence holders to continue their operations till the 122 licences are allocated afresh through auction.

The apex court verdict had held that the first-come-first-serve policy was flawed and had favoured auctioning of the 2G licences.

The apex court by its Feb 2 verdict has given two months to TRAI to make fresh recommendations for grant of licence and allocation of spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction, as was later done for allocation of spectrum in 3G band.

The Prime minister and his F M Chidambaram have put, not only India but also the international and Indian business community,to irreparable loss only for the selfish reasons ,that is,to remain in power. They are are not trust worthy leave alone the honesty levels.
Even a small place in hell also cannot be bestowed or allowed to them.Hell with them including Sibal, the ministerial joker.

Well, what ever damage they can do,its all done and keep doing untill they have power. So the bottom line is kick them out of power when we have a chance this coming general election. Also, just to give them the red lights,we can also kick congress and all its allies out of power in all the state elections.Once their base is broken in pieces, they would have no power to do any more damage. We all can do it together as a nation.

After being taught socio-cultural lessons by the least qualified people around [the samants running regional or zonal shows] for decades/ centuries, the teachings and concerns of a gentleman, candid and honest Prime Minister is being considered deplorable. What a pity? The national interests must not be allowed to be sacrificed at the altar of political inclinations.

Whatever may be the reason, the 'first come first served' policy was the brain child of BJP.
Whether anybody within the BJP benefited or not, is a mute point. All I am saying is that if BJP had auctioned the spectrum space, the government coffers could have been richer by a few thousand crores.

There are many other policies of the BJP but Congress does not follow them. Then why now with 2G?

BJP has been punished by public in 2004. Now its time for congress to get it.

If the home work was done well in time, such a situation would not have taken place.

The Prime Minister cries when big business and industry pay for their misdeeds. But when ordinary people suffer for high price and insecurity he only utters economic philosophy.
It is a pity that they are so indifferent to the suffering of common people.

Too late Mr. Manmohan Singh... I am sure this meeting should again to decide how you need to coverup for the loot and should be a brainstorming session to decide whom you can make a scape goat and try and clear yours/Sonia's and your party's name from the scandal.
You are trying all possible things that we generally see in movies.. just like a Villian raping a hapless woman and trying everything from bribing/threatening/murdering to cover up your party's misdeeds. (The woman in this case is Mother India... yes, your party and its allies have literally raped India and it would take an Avatar from God himself to fight and save the people of this country from the UPA Asuras). Unless the people of India are dumb and fools, you cannot come into power. Just like what happened in Tamil Nadu, people should take the bribes (because it is their own money that you are giving back to them seeking votes) and not vote for you. This will teach you and also the whoever form a government in the future the power of the people and you cannot take the electorate for granted. I hear on the news, Mr. Kalanidhi Maran, brother of the ex-telecom minister Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, who was one of the beneficiary's in this entire scam has fled the country to Italy with his family.. I think the same is going to happen with the other guilty people. They will flee to different countries seeking asyllum and the people of India should not let them come back to this sacred country.

Mr Kapil Sibal has to come/explain no loss theory in open once again, prove and plan to show the CAG is a loss to the exchequer and recover all the expenses incurred for CAG. This meeting today is nothing but total to say now having taken the decision the govt on cancelling will be loosing heavily on cancelling the licence all the 122 will go to the court and the legal dept will have to spend heavily and unless this is settled the 122 will take stay for fresh auction.

Italian mafia boss, Sonia Congress is a sheep outside and tiger inside. ISI, US and other nations agencies have tied rope around their noses with details of their foreign accounts. I wish there will be lots of nuclear plants with US equipment manufacturers around those areas supporting Congress for caste, religion or region with the "dirtiest and filthiest" narrow mindsets. It seems some of their vote banks did not get into their thick heads about the genocides of Muslims in Bhopal with Union Carbide.
