Toyota October sales jump 50%
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian subsidiary of Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), has reported a 50% growth in sales in October at 5,650 units compared to the same period a year ago. TKM, in which TMC holds a 89% stake while the rest is owned by Kirloskar Group, has also crossed retail sales of 4 lakh units in India since its inception in 1997. Toyota's multi-purpose vehicle Innova, Corolla Altis and recently launched Fortuner have driven the October sales, the company said. In line with its growth, Toyota is currently involved in expanding its footprint by adding to its existing network of dealerships across the country and by tying up with nationalised banks making car loans more accessible.
Dell expansion
Dell Inc is strengthening its presence in the Indian education market. The company is planning to bring its 'connected classroom' solutions to the Indian market and will offering these services at the end of this quarter. "Dell has been in the Indian education market for the last 18 months and has garnered a 10% market share. Dell is now looking at playing a larger role and bring in a range of products and solutions to the Indian market," Joe Kramer, general manager for public sector, APAC and MD, ANZ Dell Inc said.
Reliance Media CEO

Merck, Schering ops
Merck and Schering-Plough officially began operating as a combined company on Wednesday, marking a major consolidation in the US pharmaceutical industry. According to the terms of the merger, the Schering-Plough name will be dropped and the new business will operate under the Merck name.

Vodafone Essar on Wednesday said it has launched a per-second billing plan for its prepaid customers in Delhi and adjoining areas. As per the plan, the company will charge 1 paisa per second for all local and STD calls for its prepaid customers in Delhi and the NCR region.

Mahindra Satyam announced the appointment of Hari Narayanan as head of new business development in Japan. This appointment is part of Mahindra Satyam's focus to further strengthen its presence in the Japanese market. JSW Steel output
JSW Steel Ltd reported a growth of 34% in crude steel production for October 2009 compared to corresponding month last year. Crude steel production during the month stood at 4.53 lakh tonne as compared to 3.38 lakh tonne in October 2008.
