Taiwan's main stock index gains 3.46 percent on Wall Street strength

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) _ Taiwan's main stock index climbed 3.46 percent Wednesday on Wall Street's overnight gain. The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 244.18 points, or 3.46 percent, to 7,309.83 points.

Weaker oil prices also helped to push Taiwan stocks higher. In Wednesday's trade, petrochemical and construction issues stood out.

Subindices for the two sectors each rose 6.1 percent.
