TOKYO (AP) _ Japan says its core machinery orders rose 10.4 percent in May from the previous month. It is the second straight monthly increase for the figure, a key barometer of capital spending.
The government said in a monthly report Wednesday that the increase follows a 5.5 percent jump in April and an 8.3 percent drop in March. Core machinery orders exclude often volatile orders from electric power firms and those for ships.
On a year-on-year basis, core machinery orders gained 5.1 percent in May from the same month the previous year.
