Former rugby league international Tahu picked in Wallaby squad for Tri-Nations

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ Former rugby league international Timana Tahu has been named in his first Australian rugby squad for the forthcoming Tri-Nations tournament. Tahu was picked Monday in Australia's 30-man squad after starring for Australia A in the Pacific Nations Cup, scoring twice in Sunday's 21-18 loss to New Zealand Maori that gave the New Zealand side the title.

It is the former Kangaroos and New South Wales league star's first selection for the Wallabies since converting to union this year. Australia's Tri-Nations campaign begins July 19 at Perth against World Cup champions South Africa.

The Wallabies have a 3-0 record new coach Robbie Deans after two victories over France and one against Ireland. ___ Australian squad: Backs: Adam Ashley Cooper, Berrick Barnes, Luke Burgess, Sam Cordingley, Ryan Cross, Matt Giteau, Peter Hynes, Drew Mitchell, Stirling Mortlock (captain), Brett Sheehan, Timana Tahu, Lote Tuqiri, Lachlan Turner.
