PERTH, Australia (AP) _ Former Brazilian international Amaral has signed to play with Perth Glory in Australia's A-League football competition. The 35-year-old defensive midfielder represented Brazil 31 times and has previously played for Brazilian teams Palmeiras and Corinthians, Italian Serie A sides Parma and Fiorentina and Portuguese team Benfica.
Amaral, whose full name is Alexander Da Silva Mariano, impressed Perth coach David Mitchell during the club's recent tour of Indonesia. He joins Argentinean Adrian Trinidad and Ivory Coast striker Eugene Dadi as other international offseason signings by the Glory.
"Amaral is a wonderful footballer, he's the type of player we've been missing in the last couple of seasons," Mitchell said Sunday. "His interplay with the rest of the team after just a short time is outstanding.
