NGOs to train 150 social entrepreneurs

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) Non-profit organisation Dasra along with US-based Social Impact International is planning to train as many as 150 social entrepreneurs in the next three years, to foster social development. "We are looking to train about 150 people to become social entrepreneurs by the end of 2012.

They could be in diverse fields including healthcare and microfinance," American NGO Social-Impact International''s Co-Founder Charly said about future plans. The Dasra Social-Impact programme being jointly conducted by the two groups has already imparted training to about 50 people in different areas.

The programme aims at training individuals and in turn build a network of people, catering to the upliftment of the society. This year, nearly 30 people would be trained under the initiative.

Mumbai-headquartered Dasra''s President Deval Sanghavi said that every year USD 1.5 - 2 million would be spend to groom social entrepreneurs. Regarding the targets for the next three years, Charly said as many as 30 people are expected to get training in 2010, followed by 60 individuals each in 2011 and 2012.

The candidates for the programme are selected on the basis of various criteria including the sustainability of their entrepreneurship ideas. Charly said the cost of training one candidate comes to around USD 4,500.
