POSCO to launch social welfare programmes

Bhubaneswar, Nov 8 (PTI) Ahead of South Korean President Lee Myung Bak''s proposed visit to Orissa, POSCO has geared up to launch some social welfare programmes in education and health sectors near its steel plant site and mining areas. ''POSCO Foundation'' would carry out such programmes for the development of underprivileged sections of society, a company release said today.

Education, healthcare and relief to the poor would be the initial areas for carrying out such welfare programmes in and around the proposed project areas in Jagatsinghpur and Sundergarh Districts, it said. Bak''s proposed visit to the plant site near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district could be January next when he will be in India as guest at the Republic Day celebrations.
