RCF begins with a win; Punjab Police plays draw

Jalandhar, Nov 7 (PTI) RCF Kapurthala today registered an impressive win over EME Jalandhar, while Punjab Police and Corp of Signals Jalandhar played a dull draw against each other in the 26th edition of the Indian Oil Surjit Hockey tournament here today. In a Pool C match, Rail Coach Factory (RCF) produced an all-round show to ground EME Jalandhar 4-2 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.

RCF took the lead in the sixth minute when Paramjit Singh scored from the left flank. Singh again got his act together and struck once again to consolidate the lead.

In the 22nd minute, Biju Singh of EME Jalandhar reduced the margin. In the 55th minute, RCF''s Deepak Sharma scored a field goal from a pass by Gurpreet Singh to make it 3-1.

In the 62nd minute, EME''s Avtar Singh scored from a penalty stroke conversion (3-2). Three minutes later, Simrandeep Singh completed the tally (4-2) to earn full points for RCF. In the second match in Pool D, Punjab Police Jalandhar and Corp of Signal Jalandhar were locked to a goal-less draw.

Punjab police wasted a chance to take the lead in the seventh minute when Jugraj Singh was not able to convert a penalty corner. In the 47th minute, Punjab Police earned their second penalty corner but this time also they are not able to utilise it.
