Mumbai, Nov 6 (PTI) ONGC scored a comprehensive 81-62 victory over Railways for their second win in men''s league of the Savio Cup All India Basketball tournament at Don Bosco Matunga court, here today. ONGC, the Federation Cup champions began in whirlwind fashion and Railways found themselves down 1-10 within first five minutes.

Steady shooting by forward Trideep Rai and point guard Mihit Bhandari, including one three-pointer each, saw ONGC increase that lead to 20-1, before Railways saved face with five points to end the first quarter 6-25. For ONGC, centre Murli Krishna excelled in defence, cutting out a lot of the aerial balls meant for Yadwinder Singh.

Railways also just did not seem to find their shooting rhythm and their dismal show under continued throughout the match. A couple of three-pointers early in the second quarter by Prakash Mishra helped Railways, but they never managed to bridge the huge lead conceded in the initial stages.

The closest Railways came to ONGC was at 41-53 in third quarter, but with Yadwinder failing in attack and also not much of assistance in defence for Railways, ONGC pulled away again the fourth quarter through some precise shooting by Riyazuddin and Bhandari to end the match 81-62 in their favour. .
