Mumbai, Nov 5 (PTI) Karnataka''s FM Girish Kaushik (ELO 2246) and Tamil Nadu''s Saranya J (ELO 2146) lead the boy''s and girl''s category respectively with five points each at the end of the fourth day of the U-15 national sub-junior Chess Championships here. Kaushik opted for Slav Defense against Andhra Pradesh''s Abhilash Reddy M L (ELO 2133).

The game was equally poised till 13th move but on 14th move Abhilash sacrificed his Bishop for 2 pawns but could not get any compensation, thereby accepting his defeat in 22 moves. On the top table, Tamil Nadu''s Tejas Ravichandran (ELO 2203), playing with white pieces against Maharashtra''s FM Shiven Khosla (ELO 2331), opted for unusual opening which was later converted to King''s Indian defense by Shiven.

On 20th move Tejas exchanged his bishop for black strong bishop. He could have had the game in his favor by getting a strong attack.

But some weak moves later allowed Shiven to fight back and both agreed to split points after 47 moves. In the girls category, Maharashtra''s WFM Rucha Pujari (ELO 2060) playing with black against Saranya J opted for accelerated dragon variation.

On 23rd move Rucha made the mistake of capturing a pawn giving a chance to her opponent to attack her king. After 32nd moves Rucha resigned seeing unavoidable mate on her king.
