New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) The National Commission for Minorities today said that it has taken up several issues which are of great concern to the Buddhist community with the authorities concerned. The Commission said that it has taken up the issue of the amendment of Bodh Gaya Temple Management Act, 1949 with the Chief Minister of Bihar and has also recommended the inclusion of Bhoti language in the VIII schedule of the Constitution to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
During an interactive session with leaders of the Buddhist community recently, several issues concerning the community were raised. The NCM said that the issues included the dilapidated condition of Bodh Vihar near ISBT in Delhi, which is a centre of religious importance for Buddhists from Ladakh.
Lack of educational and hostel facilities for young Buddhist monks and students in Ladakh region and declaration of Buddh Purnima as a national holiday was also discussed in the meeting.
