Siwan(Bihar), Nov 5 (PTI) Six persons died after they reportedly consumed spurious liquor at Nawalpur Mohalla here, District Magistrate Bala Murugam said today. "We have reports of six deaths from Mohalla.
It is being alleged that they died after consuming spurious liquor during the past three days," Murugam told PTI. One Ladu Ram and Dhumal Sahi died at a government hospital today and the report of their autopsy suggested that their deaths were due to food poisoning, the DM said. "But at the same time we have sent samples for viscera test and we will be able to tell exactly whether they died after consuming spurious liquor or not only after receiving the reports," the District Magistrate said.
Murugam said he had ordered the district officials to raid the liquor shops here and collect samples of country-made liquor being sold in the area. Local ward councillor Rita Devi claimed that more than 10 people died after consuming spurious liquor at the Mohalla during the past three days.
Alarmed by the reports, the district authorities sealed the liquor shops here and arrested eight persons for allegedly selling pouches of country liquor, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain said.
