New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) Emperor of Japan Akihito has honoured Chairman of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council Venkataraman Krishnamurthy with the ''Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun'' in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion of bilateral economic ties. The Emperor will confer the award on Krishnamurthy on November 5 in Japan, the Embassy of Japan said in a statement today.
"He played a key role in enhancing the economic relationship between India and Japan," the release stated. Krishnaurthy, former Chairman of Steel Authority of India, had also served as Chairman and CEO of Maruti Suzuki.
The Orders of Rising Sun established in 1875 were Japan''s first awards. These decorations are conferred in recognition of individual''s distinguished accomplishments.
