Surrendered militant, his family killed in terror attack

Jammu, Jul 24 (PTI) A surrendered Hizbul Mujahideen militant and three of his family members were today killed in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. Militants barged into the house of Ghulam Hassan Wani, a former member of the Hizbul Mujahideen, in Marmath Badi village in the district early this morning and opened fired at him and his family members who were sleeping, police said.

However, the militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen managed to escape from the spot, they said, adding that the villagers informed the army about the massacre. Wani, his 31-year-old wife Azima Begum and daughter Asifa (12) died on the spot, while Wani's son Asif succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The army and police have launched a massive cordon and search operation in Marmath forest belt to nab the militants, police said. The villagers held a protest demonstration condemning the incident and observed a shut down.

Wani had surrendered before the army in November last year and joined the mainstream. PTI.
