New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) Launching a scathing attack on the UPA, JD(S) Lok Sabha member M P Veerendrakumar today accused the Government of pursuing the nuclear deal with an "obscene haste" when people were reeling under price rise. Opposing the confidence motion moved by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Veerendrakumar said while voting against the government the JD(S) or other parties were not acting in concert with the BJP. "The obscene haste with which this government is pursuing the 123 agreement is amazing.

When people are reeling under double-digit inflation, spiralling prices of food items and fuel, the government is hell-bent on a deal which is not part of the Common Minimum Programme," he said. The Kozhikode MP termed the circulation of the text of IAEA draft agreement was a "unpardonable exercise in political deceit" while it was hidden from the Left parties and its allies.

"The nuclear deal did not feature in the election manifesto of Congress. The clandestine manner in which the Government hid the text of IAEA draft agreement from the Left parties and its allies, circulating it to the Board of Governors is an unpardonable exercise in political deceit.

" Veerendrakumar reminded the Government that without their support, including his party's from outside, the UPA would not have survived for the past four years to bring "this (confidence) motion now". On criticism that the Left and those opposing the UPA were voting along with BJP, he said, "as for the breast- beating over our uniting with the BJP, the nation knows that we are not acting in concert with them and that we subscribe to diametrically different ideologies.
