Mumbai, July 3 (PTI) The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex lost 385 points in early trade today on heavy selling by funds and retail investors, tracking weak global trend. The 30-share index, which had gained 703 points yesterday, fell by 385.11 points to 13,279.51.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index's Nifty lost 114.90 points, or 2.80 per cent to 3,978.45. Marketmen said a weakening trend in global stock markets continued to influence the trading sentiments on the domestic bourses.

They said a sharp recovery of over 700 points in the previous session was temporary and purely on the basis of short-covering. Major stocks, which dragged the Sensex down were HDFC Ltd, ICICI Bank, Infosys Technologies, Larsen and Toubro, BHEL, Reliance Industries, Reliance Infra, Rcom, State Bank of India, Tata Steel and Wipro.
