UNPA a 'temporary' alliance: BJP

Thu, Jul 3 09:17 PM

New Delhi, July 3 (PTI) BJP today claimed that the UNPA was a "temporary" alliance and the constituents were all set to part ways in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls. "It is a temporary alliance, or say they are a temporary parking area from where the each of the vehicles would drive out either to the right, left or the centre," senior party leader Venkiah Naidu told reporters here.

Naidu did not dismiss a possibility of some of the UNPA constituents joining the NDA in the times to come. "Let us see, but one thing is for sure that the alliance is a temporary one," he said.

He said UNPA stands for "United Non-Profitable Assets" and the constituents were guided by "compulsions" to remain in the alliance. "The parties there have nothing in common, they are there because of political compulsions and are pursuing their state politics and rivalries," Naidu said.

On BJP leader Jaswant Singh's meeting with SP general secretary Amar Singh yesterday, he said,"it was a part of the efforts of the party to convince others not to support the government on the nuclear deal." "We are ready to talk to anyone on the deal, we can also talk to the Congress if they are ready to listen to us," he added.

However, Naidu parried queries on whether the visit by the senior leader was an official move of the party. PTI.
