Guehrer and Verraszto break world records in Moscow

Australia's Marieke Guehrer broke the 50 metres backstroke short course world record with a time of 26.17 seconds at a World Cup meeting on Friday.

She bettered the previous mark of 26.23 set by Croatia's Sanja Jovanovic in December 2008.

Hungarian Evelyn Verraszto clocked two minutes 06.01 seconds to set a world record in the 200 metres medley.

She broke the mark of 2:06.13 set by Olympic and world champion Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe at the world short course championships in Manchester in April 2008.

Moscow hosts the second leg of the FINA World Cup on Friday and Saturday before Stockholm stages the next leg on Nov. 10-11.
