The BSE Sensex provisionally closed 3.5 percent lower on Tuesday, led by energy giant Reliance Industries, as weak global markets dampened investor sentiment.
The 30-share BSE index provisionally ended down 558.98 points at 15,337.30 with 27 components losing.
Reliance Industries provisionally closed 6.2 percent lower at 1,811 rupees.
The 50-share NSE index provisionally closed down 3.53 percent at 4,545.15 points.
