The BSE Sensex fell below 15,500 on Tuesday for the first time since Sept. 4, extending losses to more than 2.5 percent on the day as energy giant Reliance Industries tumbled.
At 3:03 p.m. (0933 GMT), the 30-share BSE index was down 2.56 percent at 15,489.38 points, with 26 components in the red.
Reliance Industries was down 5.4 percent at 1,827 rupees.
The 50-share NSE index was down 2.71 percent at 4,584.20.
