Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni struck his fifth one-day international century to propel India to 354 for seven, their highest ODI total against Australia, in the second match of the series on Wednesday.

Dhoni hit 124 off 107 balls and put on 119 for the fourth wicket with Gautam Gambhir (76) and 136 for the next with Suresh Raina (62) after India were put in to bat first by the world champions in the day/night match.

Dhoni lashed nine fours and three sixes and reached his century with a straight six off medium-pacer Shane Watson before falling to left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson in the final over as depleted Australia were sent on a leather hunt on a true pitch.

Australia, 1-0 up in the seven-match series after winning Sunday's opening game, were without express bowler Brett Lee and all-rounder James Hopes, both down with injuries, although Johnson was cleared after passing a late fitness test.
