SRINAGAR, India (Reuters) - A child and a woman were killed and more than a dozen civilians wounded on Thursday when suspected Muslim separatist militants lobbed a grenade at a crowded bus terminal in Srinagar, police said.

The attack took place in the city's Batamaloo bus terminal.

"It exploded with a powerful sound," Mohammad Rajab, a witness said. "We left our shops and ran for cover."

Rebel violence has flared up across the Himalayan region over the last week. More than a dozen people, including ten soldiers, have been killed and scores wounded in explosions and shootouts.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed in Kashmir since a revolt against Indian rule broke out in 1989.
