NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, which could hold the balance of power in India, said on Saturday they were not demanding the resignation of the finance and oil ministers but wanted the government to tame inflation.

"I am not against (Palaniappan) Chidambaram. We are against inflation," Amar Singh, a senior leader of the regional party, told a news conference when asked if his party has sought the resignation of the finance minister over inflation management.

Government data showed on Friday India's wholesale price index rose 11.63 percent in the 12 months to June 21, its highest since the series began in 1995 despite efforts by the government and the central bank to rein in inflation.
