'KBC' racketeers arrested

The Delhi Police has nabbed members of an international cheating racket who cheated people in the garb of the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). Ketan Verma, 25, Nizam Khan, 27 and Shahid Ansari, 51, were arrested from Allahabad three days ago by the Interstate Cell of Crime Branch, DCP (crime) Sanjay Jain said.

Fifteen ATM cards, one cheque book and four mobile phones, by which they were in contact with their associates in foreign countries, were recovered from their possession, he added.

Investigation into the case came following a complaint by a victim in the month of August this year. The complainant was cheated by an unknown caller who claimed that he was calling from a KBC. "The caller told the complaint that his number had got an award of Rs 25 lakh and was given two account numbers of SBI and ICICI banks and was asked to deposit Rs 15,000 in these accounts to receive the amount of award", said the DCP.
